≈ What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a specially formulated solution that is applied to your skin with the aim of improving its appearance and texture. Chemical peels can be dated as far back as the ancient Egyptians - who used milk baths containing lactic acid - to refresh their skin.

≈ How does it work?

A chemical peel reacts with the upper most layer of your skin, causing it to 'peel' off and allowing newer, fresher skin underneath to become visible. It does this by removing dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of new cells.

Different results can be achieved depending on the 'depth' of peel. Superficial peels are a great skin refresher, whilst deeper peels are more effective for targeting things like acne, scarring, pigmentation and fine lines.

≈ Is there any downtime?

With superficial peels, results are immediate and there is minimal downtime. For medium depth peels, you can expect some redness and peeling which usually begins on day 3 or 4 and may last for a further 3-4 days.

≈ How long does it last?

This is largely dependant on the depth of peel. Results from superficial peels can last for 1-2 months, medium depth peels 6-12 months and the deepest peels can last for years. For most peels, an initial course of treatments followed by regular maintenance treatment will achieve the best results over a long period of time.
