FAQs
≈ What is microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a type of treatment that uses tiny needles to cause micropunctures in the skin. These small contact points stimulate the body's natural healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect.
≈ What does it involve?
Following your consultation, a numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Dr Shahd uses a microneedling pen - more precise than a traditional dermaroller - allowing for the depth to be adjusted based on your specific concerns and skin's sensitivity. The procedure itself takes 15 minutes. Included is an at-home recovery kit to optimise your results and kickstart the healing process.
≈ What can you treat?
Fine lines and wrinkles
Sun spots
Stretch marks
Skin laxity
Acne scarring
Surgical scarring
Large pores
Dr Shahd has experience with a variety of treatment devices including lasers. Alternatives will always be discussed with you.
≈ Is there any downtime?
Microneedling is a gentler procedure than the name would suggest! Downtime is usually minimal with mild redness and swelling lasting from a few hours to 1-3 days.
≈ How many appointments?
This will depend on the starting condition of your skin. Dr Shahd generally recommends an initial course of 3-6 treatments with a 4-6 week gap between treatments to allow for healing. Subsequent maintenance of results is achieved by 1 treatment every 6-9 months.
“I’m so happy! I’ve always been self conscious about my small lips and was really nervous about having the treatment done but Dr Shahd made me feel so at ease and my lips look and feel so full and natural. Thank you!”
